To be an Architect
Our second project requires us to analyse thoroughly the entire site for our final project using all our five senses. The site that was chosen was none other than Pulau Banding, where the famous Belum Rainforest Resort is located. Pulau Banding is an island surrounded by the man-made Temenggor Lake. Just opposite the island is also the famous Temenggor Rainforest Reserve, which is a well known habitat for many wildlife and endangered animals like the elephant, tigers, rhinocerous, hornbill and many more. It is also a home for many floras such as the endangered Rafflesia and many other herbal and medicinal plants and flowers. Every year, visitors from all over the world come and visit both the island and forest. Even researchers from other parts of the world come to study the flora and fauna here. Thus, for the upcoming project we are to design a Nature Appreciation Center for the visitors all over the wolrd, to grasp a better understanding of what Banding Island and Temenggir rainforest is all about, like a Gateway. However, before going into the design process of the building, for this project, we have to analyse and understand the site better, as this will help in the upcoming design ideas.

For the final Project 2b, students are required design a Nature Appreciation Center for the public or visitors that visits the Banding Island. In project 2a, we had already research and analyse the entire allocated site. Therefore, this time around we have to come up with a design that is not just site specific but also making sure that design of the center also meets all the required function and purpose. The center is not just a form for the people to admire at but it must also give a sense of belonging or be part of nature itself. The design of the center have to be somehow related to the Banding Island and Temenggor Rainforest Reserve. The internal space must also conincide with the external environment and give a sense of poeticness as visitors walk through the different spaces or rooms. Therefore, it is crucial to come up with a design that includes nature in both the external and internal design, in order for the full poetic experience.
Overall, I was able to know better about Banding Island and Temenggor Rainforest. It was very interesting during the site visit, as the site wasnt just any other typical forest, but it had elements, that made the experience very different from other rainforest. Besides appreciating nature itself, we were also able to experience the various beautiful architectures that were on the Island. This entire project has taught me alot and gave me experience that I'd nevet forget.
