To be an Architect

Project 1 is an individual project, which required us to produce 10 sketches based on our chosen building. For our group, we were given the Tze Chi Buddhist Merit House or known as the Gopeng Road Old House in Ipoh. We were to produce our sketches according to the topics given :

 

 

• Genius Loci

• Poetic Qualities

• Cultural Attributes

• Construction Details

• Plan

• Elevations or sections

 

 

For the sketches, we were allowed to use any media to our disposal. So, I chose to present my work using pencil, pen and water color. Besides, we had to document and analyse the physical and intangible qualities of the building as well as the immediate context of the site through the sketches. Overall of project 1, I was able to notice and identify the many differences in building's architectural elements and structures. Besides, I also managed to understand better the style of architecture and express them in a more poetic sense. Hence, I was able to appreciate more of the building's history and heritage as well as improving my sketching skills.
