Project 2 - Construction Activities & Process
For Project 2, students were required to choose a 3-Storey Bungalow and study the construction activities based on the understanding acquired from the previous assignment. With the use of Adobe Revit, each individual has to illustrate the construction process through 3D modelling with appropiate components and technical knowledge on construction of a bungalow from stage to stage. A documentation of 60 weeks construction activities had to be recorded.
The objective of this project was to introduce basic principles and procedures of construction process through a simulated project, understanding the sequence and coordination of construction at site and allowing students to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of construction, material and technology.
From the analysis of the contruction process via revit, I was able to understand better about construction elements and its components.
Besides, I was further exposed to the current construction technology on local construction sites. This has helped me to gain an in-depth knowledge about the current materials and technology used today in relevance to the present construction industry. Overall, I believe that what ever that I have learnt throughout my building construction 1 in semester 2 will definitely be of great beneficial to me in the near future.
Project 1 - Experiencing Construction
In a group of ten, we had to select one or more on-going construction sites to observe, analyse and research about the types of building materials used. In addition, we also had to find out and understand the contruction processes of the Residential Buidlings. The site that we chose was a residential area which was still under construction, I was able to learn and identify the building construction details and methods used for the site. The information and data collected through the site visit were then compiled accordingly to the phases as well as the components required for the construction processes.
Through this project, I was able able to understand better about the component and materials used for the buiding. Besides, the experience that I gain from the site visit was amazing and eye opening. Not only do I gain improvement in my communication skills, but it has also helped me to understand better about the construction process, many of which that is not found in books. I was also able gain a new insight about the consideration of cost of production and the reduction of the construction impact to the environment. All these knowledge I believe will someday help me not only in my projects but also when Im in working as a practicing Architect.
