Project 1

Project 1 is a group and individual assignment. Not only are we required to do group boards, we are also required to do our own individual board that will be based on a particular space that we have chosen at the site.

In a group of 5, we were assigned to research on the building materials at either a commercial or residential building. Hence, we chose the residential building, known as the Lee Resident. From this project, I have learnt to analyse and identify different types of materials, as well as the physical and chemical properties. In addition, I was also able to differentiate the values of each type of materials and how it can affect the asthetic values of the architecture. The different texture and colors of the materials play a great role in contributing to the design of the space and the feelings that one gets when being in the space itself.

Building Materials

Project 2

Project 2 was an individual project. It was related to the Architectural Design Studio 1's final project. Based on the final model that we have completed in Design studio 1, we were required to do another presentation board for the different types of materials that will be used for our form and space in real life. Therefore, I had to do a thorough research on what type of materials that would fit best to my design as well as the functionality of them. I also had to consider the quality, colors, and maintenance of the materials in a long time run. All this was significant as it can affect one's design.

From this project, I learnt that using the right materials not only affects the asthetic value of the design but it can also have an impact in the quality of the building. Based on the movie itself, It had a 'Futuristic' genre to it. Therefore, one would expect to see a simple but sleek building materials that are used for the architectures in the movie like the usage of metals, see-through glass etc. All this was to be taken into consideration as well.
