To be an Architect
Project 3 - Report & Video
Project 3 required us to present our collected datas and information into drawings, report and video. The team of 26 members had to jot down all the research information and drafts into sketchbooks or papers to document the datas collected. Besides, photographs and videos were taken to record down the information given through the interviews. We also had to look through books, articles, journals, and online websites to further gain additional sources of information.
The purpose of this project was to understand better the significance of the historical heritage and timeline of the Gopeng House in Ipoh, while relating it back to the architectural style as well as the social, economical, and political influence to the design and concept of the building back in those days. Besides, the measurements, sketching, recording, and photography evidence were the methods of documenting the heritage building on site. This was to evoke a sense of appreciation to the cultural heritage and architectural style of the building.
Researching and studying the functions and history of the building provided us, students with a different perspective view of the western colonization that has influence greatly not just the style of architecture, but also the economic, social and political status of the country. Overall, I was able to gain a better understanding of the cultural history from the past and learnt to appreciate the importance of conserving the architectural heritage.
Today, it gives the younger generation an opportunity to see a glimpse of the past and history of Ipoh as well as inspiring many young and growing Architects of the future.
