To be an Architect

Project 1

 

In a group of three, we were assigned with a task to design a shelter and sports center for the students in Taylors. The site assigned to us is located near to the tennis and futsal court as well as the carpark areas. Hence, making this a very strategic location for students to relax and chill. After studying and analysing the site, we decided to come up with a design that leans more towards the geometrical side, to better suit the theme of Taylor's design. The idea behind the form of our building was inspired by the checkered board of a chess. We wanted some of the building sturcture to be movable and the space to be fun and interactive, as this is design for students. The cube-like sturctures are made of plastic materials so that students can actually move it about and turn it into tables and chairs. The main framework and sturcture of the building like the columns and beam will be fix. The center can also be a resting place for the students who wishes to wait for the traffic to subside before driving back home in the evening. 

 

Overall, the design process has taught us to have a better understanding of the studies of site analysis, as it is crucial to incorporate these analysis into the whole design. It wasa  challenge at first to incorporate both the technical part of analysis as well as the poetic part together, as they are two very different things. However, combining these two things has helped us to come with a design that was fun and satisfactory. Because of this project, we were also able to polish up our analytical mind and skill, which would help a great deal for our final project.
